{"id":1303,"date":"2020-01-05T19:54:25","date_gmt":"2020-01-06T01:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/gazette\/2020\/01\/05\/20200105-signs\/"},"modified":"2022-04-19T21:51:04","modified_gmt":"2022-04-20T02:51:04","slug":"20200105-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/2020\/01\/05\/20200105-signs\/","title":{"rendered":"The signs are there"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of signs have recently caught my eye, both of which are reminders that we live in Texas, and in a not entirely civilized part of the state at that.<\/p>\n<p>The first one was on the front door of our post office&#8230;which is located about a mile from our house as the crow flies (assuming the crow flies in a straight line; I don&#8217;t really know much about their flight patterns).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 14px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 8px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/images\/misc\/sign_postoffice.jpg\" alt=\"Sign at the post office warning us that we could be eaten by big feline predators\"><br \/>\nAn unwritten rule: Always hike with someone slower than you.<\/p>\n<p>There are people in our neighborhood who claim to have spotted a mountain lion up the hill past our security gate. I&#8217;ll take their word for it; personally, I&#8217;d much rather have the occasional bobcat passing through.<\/p>\n<p>Then there&#8217;s this sign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 14px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 8px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/images\/misc\/sign_hospital.jpg\" alt=\"Sign at our local hospital\/sporting goods store\"><br \/>\nY&#8217;all be in Texas now.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, what&#8217;s the big deal?&#8221; you&#8217;re probably thinking. &#8220;Every sporting goods store in the country has a sign like this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Of course. But does every <b>hospital gift shop<\/b>? Well, hoss, maybe you&#8217;ve been going to the wrong hospital.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t been in the gift shop to see exactly what kind of camo (scrubs? bandages? bedpans?) or hunting items (12 gauge <i>needles<\/i>? sling<i>shots<\/i>?) they stock.
