In this case, the footwear choice of some members of the Northwestern University&#8217;s national championship women&#8217;s lacrosse team during a visit to the White House has got some folks all riled up. Even CNN&#8217;s coverage of the flip-flop flap is filed under <em>Inside Politics<\/em>, proving that there is nothing under the sun that cannot be blown out of proportion if we just put our tiny minds to it.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m not your go-to guy for sartorial advice, but I don&#8217;t understand the hoo-haw over some chicks wearing thongs (sandals, that is..as far as I know) with dresses and skirts. Jiminy Christmas&#8230;you add another piece of leather or plastic around the ankle and an old thread spool under the heel and you&#8217;ve got a $600 sandal, and nobody&#8217;s going to argue about whether that&#8217;s appropriate or not.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, these women play <em>lacrosse<\/em>. I mean, they run around on a big field of grass swinging baseball bats at each other&#8217;s heads for fun. They have other things on their minds&#8230;like, say, concussions&#8230;than whether Manolo Blahnik will approve of their foot coverings. And, frankly, I don&#8217;t know who has the guts to point out a fashion <em>faux pas<\/em> to a lacrosse player, especially one who had to get up early and put on a dress just for a five minute photo op, even if it is with the Prez.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, if they want to wear flip-flops to the White House, I say good on them.
