{"id":4183,"date":"2007-01-19T08:19:46","date_gmt":"2007-01-19T14:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/gazette\/2007\/01\/19\/abbye-nanook-of-the-north\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T15:12:19","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T20:12:19","slug":"abbye-nanook-of-the-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/2007\/01\/19\/abbye-nanook-of-the-north\/","title":{"rendered":"Abbye: Nanook of the North"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I mentioned yesterday that Abbye&#8217;s reaction to snow is somewhat surprising, particularly in light of <a title=\"An example from the Gazette Archives\" href=\"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/2003\/11\/24\/leaves-of-death\/\">her normal sissified behavior<\/a> in other meteorological conditions (wind, rain, thunder, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>When we awoke Wednesday to a thin blanket of snow, she dutifully trucked out into the backyard per her usual routine, and having completed her business, did this:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px gray solid; width: 640px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericsiegmund.com\/images\/fireant\/abbye\/2007snow2.jpg\" alt=\"Photo - Abbye sitting in snow\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Then, as if sitting in snow wasn&#8217;t evidence enough of her disdain for the conditions, she did this:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px gray solid; width: 640px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericsiegmund.com\/images\/fireant\/abbye\/2007snow1.jpg\" alt=\"Photo - Abbye lying in snow\" \/><\/div>\n<p>She appeared quite content to recline indefinitely and I had to issue a stern order to get her back inside. I assume that her fur is so thick that she was simply enjoying a cool interlude. (I do wonder if she has a visual recollection of snow, now that she can no longer see it.)<\/p>\n<p>The downside for her was that she was greeted at the door with the Big Brown Towel. As you might guess, she reacted to the drying off process as if I was actually skinning her alive in order to remove the ice that was clotted in her fur.
