It&#8217;s a rock, and the pasture is littered with them. Growing up, we thought they were pieces of meteorites but I now realize how silly that was. They&#8217;re obviously fragments from a crashed alien spacecraft.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: .85em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 8px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/images\/miscphotos\/butterfly_sulphur.jpg\" alt=\"Sulphur butterfly\"><br \/>\nI <em>think<\/em> this is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.butterfliesandmoths.org\/species\/Phoebis-sennae\">Cloudless Sulphur<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: .85em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 8px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/images\/miscphotos\/butterfly_gulffritillary1.jpg\" alt=\"Gulf Fritillary\"><br \/>\nI&#8217;m more certain that this is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.butterfliesandmoths.org\/species\/Agraulis-vanillae\">Gulf Fritillary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: .85em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 8px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ericsiegmund.com\/fireant\/images\/miscphotos\/butterfly_gulffritillary2.jpg\" alt=\"Gulf Fritillary\"><br \/>\nThis is a different view of the Gulf Fritillary shown above.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We were in Fort Stockton over the weekend and I carved out some time to wander through a pasture to take some photos, and then snapped a few at the nursery owned by my brother and his wife.
