There’s something funky going on inside my camera, because this photo of an oriole in my neighbor’s tree is definitely not accurate, color-wise. But it’s still a cool bird, and one that’s not commonly found around here.

This looks more like someone’s scarlet mccaw. Are you sure it’s not an escapee?

I’m at a loss to explain where the brilliant yellow of the bird’s underbelly went.
I was also getting a weird bright spot in most of the photos, like something was reflecting into the lens. Very strange…and very annoying.
Hey, I’ve been watching an Oriole in my tree the past three days in Odessa! It’s the first time I remember ever seeing an Oriole in these parts – though I’m certainly not much of a bird watcher.
I identified mine as a Bullock’s Oriole (formerly known as the Northern Oriole) from the big white splotches on his wings. This according to my wife’s bird identification book. The book also shows this part of Texas to be well within the bird’s known range.
Weird, huh?
Les, I’m going to have to get one of those bird ID books. There’s also a pretty interesting iPhone app for birdwatchers. I’m way outside my area of expertise with these new birds!
